SoldatPage: Comment and Rating system!
August 18, 2007 - 10:07 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've updated SoldatPage a bit.
I've cleaned up the maps, mods and apps sections and added a new comment and rating system, yay! You can now rate and comment on maps, mods and applications. You can comment as much as you like but only rate a certain item once. You can't rate your own items ofcourse.
A smaller change; I've also allowed RAR extensions for the Application uploads, I don't know why I only allowed zip anyway.

Soldat: SoldatForums Hacked
August 15, 2007 - 14:47 GMT-0400
Hi,

The SoldatForums have been down for about 50 to 60 minutes today. The reason for that is that someone has tried to delete all SoldatForums content (posts, users, theme, ...). Luckily FliesLikeABrick had a backup of 6 AM EST that morning so we only lost 5 hours worth of data. That means that all posts between 6AM and 11AM EST have been lost.
We have no idea of who it was right now, but the villian apparently got Chakra's (administrator) password. The password has been changed and the forums are back online.

You can follow the progress of the investigation in this topic. Everyone is adviced to change their password on SoldatForums.

Soldat: Soldat 1.4.2 and Server 2.6.2 released!
August 12, 2007 - 05:36 GMT-0400
Hi,

Today, Soldat 1.4.2 and the dedicated server 2.6.2 have been released. There aren't that many new features because the focus was put on bugifxes this time. However, the new version introduces a new feature called 'seamless servers'. The problem is, no-one knows forsure what exactly that is.
Michal Marcinkowski announced on his blog something about seamless servers already, and if that is exactly what the new feature is all about, then it goes like this:
It enables the server to switch a certain player to another server in-game. The specific player will not notice any diffrence at all, but he'll be playing on another server. That means you can build endless maps and when you do reach the end of a map, you simply get switched to another server and back at the beginning part of the map so it'll seem like the map is endless.

There's also some bad news. There still seem to be access violations and BattlEye problems for some players, which were the major issues in 1.4.1.

SoldatPage: New Tool - RandomSig!
August 08, 2007 - 19:02 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've created a new tool called RandomSig.
It allows you to upload a bunch of images to SoldatPage. You'll then get a link which you can use in your signature on a forum. SoldatPage will randomly select one of your images to display whenever the signature is displayed.
The RandomSig page can be found under the Tools menu.
Pretty neat to play with :).

Click here to go to the RandomSig page!

SoldatPage: SoldatPage Soldat Survey 2 ended!
August 07, 2007 - 11:04 GMT-0400
Hi,

A week ago, the SoldatPage Soldat Survey 2 was launched. It included a bunch of new questions, some of them concerning the SoldatForums. The second survey ended pretty fast due to the lack of intrest in it. This time we only managed to collect 50 entries while the last survey had about 120 entires.
I don't think I'll be making a third edition of the survey unless there's a demand for it.

The results can be viewed Here, in the SoldatForums topic

SoldatPage: New location for ads
August 06, 2007 - 10:18 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've added some more ads to the top of the page, below the header. It's just a test to see if the income for those ads can compensate for the break in the site's layout.
The ads below the menu didn't exactly made as much money as I hoped them to do.
After some time, one of the two ads will be removed depending on the results.

SoldatPage: Updates
July 28, 2007 - 11:52 GMT-0400
Hi,

Sorry for not updating the site more regularly. I've been quite busy lately, but I've come up with some plans and ideas to put some more life into SoldatPage.
First of all I think I'm going to post news here way more often.
Second, I'm currently implementing a small shoutbox onto the main page, and that'll probably be done in about an hour or so.
Third, I released UniTaunt, the only Taunt editor for Soldat that supports Unicode characters and Azerty/Qwerty keyboards. (link)

There's alot more to come, especially for the clanportals. But I won't go into detail right now since those ideas aren't solid enough yet to announce.

SoldatPage: Clanportals
July 04, 2007 - 16:03 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've finally had the time and opportunity to release the clanportals! Clanportals is a project that enables clans to have a dynamic clansite without having to know any development codes. It has a whole bunch of features, but it's not free.
All the money will fund the new dedicated server I'm planning to buy, so it's a win-win situation.

You can head over to the Clanportals page to have a full introduction.

SoldatPage: Donations
May 12, 2007 - 19:20 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've finally set up a PayPal account to recieve donations.
The donations will be used to buy a dedicated server from hetzner.de. The dedicated server will allow me to add tons of features that are unique to the Soldat community and also cheap european server rentals.

You can help SoldatPage by sending a PayPal donation to DePhille-at-gmail-dot-com. A list of donations and their senders will be kept on the main page.

Thanks in advance!

Soldat: 5th Anniversary!
May 09, 2007 - 16:42 GMT-0400
Hi,

Today (May 9 2007) Soldat is celebrating it's 5th anniversary!
Trough all these years, alot of Soldat versions have been released. I even remember the addition of secondary weapons.
Though it may not seem so, Soldat has changed alot since then.

As a celebration event, a picture of FliesLikeABrick being modelling topless has been posted on the SoldatForums.
The biggest change is probably the community. The community around Soldat has known an immense growth since the release of Soldat 1.2 and is still growing alot today. Even with the release of Soldat 1.4, alot of new people are flowing togheter every day.

I wish Soldat many more years to come!

Soldat: Soldat 1.4 released!
May 02, 2007 - 07:38 GMT-0400
Today (Sunday, April 30) Soldat 1.4 was released.
Soldat 1.4 has some major changes and additions such as a minimap, changeable screen resolution and a new anti-cheat and anti-hack engine (BattlEye).
This new version is also equipped with Toumaz's icon, which won the icon contest a few days ago.
Soldat 1.4 has gotten alot of attention and even made it to the front page of Digg and alot of gaming websites.

The downside is that there are many negative comments on the new release, more than usual. A few of these complaints are about the new fonts, which tend to be hard to read on higher resolutions. There are also alot of runtime error's reported, which prevent Soldat from even running.
However, Michal Marcinkowski is working hard to fix all the issues so 1.4.1 can be released very soon.

There are several methods to download the newest version of Soldat 1.4 . I suggest using the torrent link. At this time there are tons of seeds for Soldat 1.4 and downloads rarely go slower than 500KBytes/second. However, direct link mirrors are also available.

SoldatPage: Server!
April 21, 2007 - 07:51 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've set up a Soldat Server for SoldatPage.
The server is located in Belgium, EU players should get a decent ping (US have around 133-166 ping). The ping kick limit is set to 250.

The server will be rotating custom maps submitted by users on SoldatPage. This will help make the maps more famous. The gamemode is currently set to DeathMatch, due to the lack of custom maps in CTF.
I'll also add the new u13sss for stats once I've finished it.

IP: virjam.hopto.org
Port: 23073
Max. Players: 8
Gamemode: DeathMatch

Soldat: Icon for 1.4 contest ended
April 19, 2007 - 07:48 GMT-0400
The contest at SoldatForums.com for the Soldat 1.4 Icon has ended.

The winner is Toumaz, with this icon:

The icon will be used in a 16x16 pixel version as Soldat.pl's afvicon. it will also be used as the program icon for Soldat 1.4, which is expected to be released soon.

The contest was ended by Michal marcinkowski, so chances are big that Soldat 1.4 will be released soon!
SoldatPage: PHP INI Maker
April 15, 2007 - 16:42 GMT-0400
Hi,

I've finished the PHP INI Maker.
The PHP INI Maker is a small web application that allows you to generate or modify soldat.ini files easily for your Soldat Dedicated Server or Soldat client.
You can choose wether or not to upload a soldat.ini file to edit it, or to generate a new one.

The application has a very simple GUI (Graphical User Interface) and all values are divided into very clear categories.
You do need an activated SoldatPage account to use the tool!

The tool can be found under the new 'Soldat Tools' menu on your left or using this link.
Please send your feedback using the contact form or send a PM (Personal Message) to DePhille.

Soldat: Icon for 1.4
April 07, 2007 - 17:00 GMT-0400
Starting from April 7, 2007 there will be a contest about an icon for Soldat 1.4 and a FavIcon for the website.
A FavIcon is the small icon that appears next to the address in your browserwindow. The size of a FavIcon is 16x16 pixels. There's also a chance that the winner will have his icon used for Soldat 1.4 too which is believed to come out somewhere this month (April).
The contest rules are:
•Submitted icons must be 32x32 pixels in size.
• The latest date for submissions is next Saturday (April 14, 2007).
• If you win you make the icon in these sizes: 48x48, 32x32 and 16x16 pixels.
• Michal Marcinkowski will decide wether or not the icon will be used in Soldat 1.4 .

To submit your icon you must place a reply in the 'Icon for 1.4' topic on SoldatForums.

Good luck!
Soldat: Translation file for 1.4 Available
April 07, 2007 - 17:00 GMT-0400
Direct quote from Michal Marcinkowski:
Maybe I should have done this earlier but nevertheless here it is. I have decided to release this so you can translate Soldat before 1.4 is out and if you`re quick enough it will be put in the default Soldat 1.4 installation file for everybody to use.
Here is the file 1.4 Translation.

Notes:
The file is saved in UNICODE format. That means you`ll have to use a decent text editor that supports saving in unicode and that doesn`t screw up line numbers (I use Visual Express 2005 or Crimson Editor). To be sure it is saved in unicode it should be about 30kb size or more.
You can copy/paste old translations where it is possible but there are some changes so please notice them (a diff/file comparison program will be useful).
The most important change is adding formatting ex. "Killed by %s", so it is possible to use correct grammar in your language when displaying "Killed by Jack".

On another note: the taunts.txt file will also be using UNICODE. So if you`ve got an editor for taunts be sure it works for version 1.4.

So if you`got the translation ready,
please post it here for everyone to see. Cause I don't want to get duplicate works, so nobody does unnecessary work.
SoldatPage: ReLaunch!
April 07, 2007 - 16:46 GMT-0400
I've finally had the time to do something about my projects.
I've written a complete new script for SoldatPage and the Webring. All scripts are faster, more reliable, more efficient and most important: easier to add new codes to. That's why you can expect a ton of upgrades in the next days which usually take days to code. I'm thinking of an applications section, implementing the webring, user system with Personal Messages and so on.
I'm still waiting for a reply from my previous webhost, netpub. If I do get a reply I might be able to get all the data of the old SoldatPage and other projects so I can put them all on this new version again. Unfortunately, there's just a tiny chance that that will happen.

In the meanwhile, FliesLikeABrick has offered me free hosting until the end of April. If I didn't buy my own dedicated server by then, I'm paying him for the hosting I get. As you can hear me coming, money is a problem. I'm thinking of putting tiny banners on SoldatPage which generate money per unique visitor that clicks on them. The more money I get, the faster I'm able to buy the new Server. The new server should make me able to offer crazy things like clanportals and other things you can't find anywhere in the Soldat Community.
